New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “But I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday in the area between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on early August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
