Just as bad weather tore through the northwest the previous evening, Manchester City blew Manchester United away at the their home ground. It was a statement three goal victory for the City coach's side owing to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that firmly established their leadership claims as they reinforced their position at the top of the table.

Consecutive Setbacks for United

This scoreline signalled consecutive Women's Super League defeats for the United manager's side for the initial occasion since last May, leaving them a sizable gap off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

Manchester United's ability to juggle domestic and continental soccer with a thin squad has been a frequently analyzed subject since they earned a place in the Champions League. Considering the calendar, it always felt like this was the week that would seriously challenge this capability. Sadly for the opposition, they appeared tired throughout, the landmark win against PSG clearly having had an impact.
