Jurgen Klopp says coming back to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring continental glory and the Premier League crown for three decades, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I will never coach another team in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, so the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain for lengthy sessions; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, however, dining out with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood at the club. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship last term. The team has suffered a string of losses in all competitions following significant transfers, but he rubbished the idea it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and the effect on Liverpool. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates too. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
