England to Begin Euro 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they secure the expected passage for a championship taking place in the majority of the UK and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an England men’s game since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to host the Three Lions for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top Group B, their round of 16 match would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Launch and Demonstration

The championship was launched at an ceremony in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were confronted as they approached the site by approximately 50 activists, who urged Israel to be removed from global football because of the situation in Gaza.

Signs were raised with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Schedule

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will involve Wales if they secure a place.

Wembley will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will attract family audiences and help reach a more diverse set of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would do the same at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the qualification process; two reserved places will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the standard process.

Locations and Knockout Stage

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches played at the national stadium of each host.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Official Statement

“The event will be a championship for the followers and a festival of everything we cherish about the football – its fervor and power to foster unity.”

Over 3 million tickets, a record for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be released to attendees.
